Theme III. Compassion

Read the story on Touching the Cloak Luke 8:40-56

 Note

When the woman touched the cloak of Jesus and he stopped to give her space to tell her story, it started the process of her holistic healing. He broke the chains of isolation, powerlessness, vulnerability, physical weakness, material and spiritual poverty. It is very important to show compassion and listen to the most vulnerable, marginalised and minority in our community

Let the team discuss on the categories of people that are vulnerable in their community and the community can show them mercy

Qualities we need to make compassion real and create a well-watered garden.

  • Love for God
  • Passion for working with the community
  • A heart for the poor
  • Desire to see communities fulfil their potential
  • Patience and determination
  • Courage to try new things and take risks

God has compassion for all in our midst - the poor, the rich, marginalized, oppressed, least and the last

Believers are called to be repairers of the broken walls of our society- We are the Light and Salt of the world.

Compassion is the primary motivation for our action and solidarity with the poor

God wants us to use the wealth, gifts, resources, etc. He has given us to benefit others too”

A heart of compassion towards others gives people value and significance. When people take time to listen and care for someone, it gives that person a sense of dignity and a reminder that they are not alone.

A heart of compassion may involve challenging prejudice and discrimination.

A heart of compassion creates an alertness to the needs around us, both the obvious and the hidden needs.

A heart of compassion allows us to be interrupted and willing to put plans aside in order to meet the needs of others.

Though the mountains be shaken, and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,’ says the Lord, who has compassion on you.” Isaiah 54:10
