Land Preparation
- Adequate preparation should start as soon as rains have stopped or after harvesting the previous crop (i.e. around May)
- Plough the land to 30cm deep to facilitate complete organic decomposition and to enhance aeration.
- Ridging; if they are not available, make new ridges in the farrows of the previous ones.
- Ridge spacing : the recommended spacing for maize ridges is 75 cm apart and should be aligned on the contour following the marker ridge for soil conservation purposes.
