Nutrition requirements for lactating mothers

  • Lactating women should eat one extra meal each day for additional energy and nutrients for themselves and their growing baby.
  • Lactating women must eat nutritious meals every day which include locally available foods from all the six food groups.
  • Lactating women MUST avoid alcohol and smoking.
  • Lactating mothers should take vitamin A capsule immediately after delivery or within 8 weeks so that the baby receives the vitamin A in the breast milk.
  • Households should use iodized salt to ensure adequate intake of iodine
