Nutrition is an essential component of a healthy and productive life. In Malawi, undernutrition is a public health concern. People of all ages are required to consume a balanced diet with sufficient amount of calories, protein, and other nutrients to meet their bodies’ basic needs. This can impact physical growth and brain development, as well as the immune system’s ability to fight off diseases.
However, people need to consume adequate amount of water, moderate the consumption of sugar, salt and oil to maintain a healthy life. Opting for a balanced, adequate and diverse diet is an important step towards a happy and healthy lifestyle. It is of outmost importance to ensure that all food is prepared in hygienic environment to prevent diseases. There are some cohorts that require special attention with regards to food and diet and these are discussed in the following paragraphs.
