Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR)

Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR)

Introduction

MEANING OF FMNR It is a way of taking care of naturally regenerated trees by farmers who have the capability to have a family, community or area forest. This is one of the ways of taking care of nature so that trees grow well and are protected. This helps to encourage rapid afforestation than propagation through seedlings where survival rate has always been questionable. This method of natural regeneration uses the theory of “Releasing the underground forest”.

After site selection, the farmers are supposed to identify the tree or shrub species in accordance to their desire of the forest. They are also supposed to select regenerants that are viable, erect and pleasant in appearance and prune out all the other branches and cut down the non-selected species and thin out those selected that are too close to each other.
