The training will address the following cover the following topics:

• Understanding disaster risk management: key Concepts and Terms including DRM CYCLE Definitions of a HAZARD and DISASTER
• History of disasters in Malawi
• Disaster risk management in Malawi
• Disaster Response and Recovery
• Early Warning Systems
• Developing Community Disaster Preparedness Plans
• Groups to discuss and agree on definitions of terms/concepts assigned to them (4 groups)
• Plenary discussion on terms and their definitions with a focus on any ‘special’ terms identified by groups
